Up Next, Monday, May 6, 2024: “The Myth of the Lincoln Kidnap Plot” — Cancelled!

It’s our unpleasant task to inform you that the Steering Committee has decided to cancel the May meeting of the General Charles H. Grosvenor Civil War Round Table because of the unexpected death of John Fazio, our scheduled presenter.  Just this week we learned of his death, which actually had occurred about a month ago, sometime in March.  Over the years, John had made many talks to our round table, and they were always among the most professional and well-received presentations.  We join the CWRT community around the state in morning his passing.

The Steering Committee is hard at work now putting together a schedule for the next academic year.  Some of the topics under consideration for this upcoming season of CWRT meetings are a bottom-up history drawn from the diaries of two common soldiers of the Vermont Brigade, a presentation entitled “Hellmira: The Union’s Most infamous Civil War Prison,” and a living history presentation focusing on Louisa May Alcott’s experience as a Civil War nurse.  A common thread between several of these presentations is that they involve Ohio graduates returning to Athens after a long absence.

Meetings starts at 7:00 in the large conference room in the Athens County Library at the Corner of Home and Lincoln streets in the City of Athens.
